SINGAPORE MUST-SEE SIGHTS - 10K

Runner on the ground - ADRIAN
This tour starts at the Marina Bay, in the heart of the central business district. The entire area was built over reclaimed land – with the reclamation work being completed about 30 years ago. We will start running on the Waterfront Promenade, and very soon we will come in full view of the Marina Bay Sands (MBS), famous for its rooftop infinity pool, the world’s highest and longest. While on the Waterfront Promenade, we will also have excellent views over the business district!
After approximately 2km, we will reach the Gardens by the Bay – a scenic paradise for nature and photography lovers! Visited by more than 10 million tourists annually, it is a must-see sight! Noteworthy, this was the only sight which North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited when he came to Singapore in 2018 for the North Korea – United States summit. We will run a short 2km loop inside the gardens.
We will then go back towards the Marina Bay again, where we will cross to the other side via the Helix Bridge. This is a pedestrian bridge linking Marina Centre with Marina South. The bridge has four viewing platforms providing views of the Singapore skyline. This bridge is a world first in architectural and engineering design, and won the “World’s Best Transport Building” award at the World Architecture Festival the year it opened (in 2010).
Continuing our run on the Waterfront Promenade, we will soon reach the Esplanade, which is a large park containing a concert hall built in the form of a “durian” (a tropical fruit found in Southeast Asia). After the Esplanade, we will continue towards the Merlion – a famous landmark and major tourist attraction. The Merlion is a mythical creature with a lion’s head and the body of a fish that is widely used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore.
We will continue towards the Padang (this is a word in local dialect, which means “field”). The Padang is surrounded by several important landmarks, including the City Hall and the Supreme Court building.
After the Padang, we will head towards the Singapore River where we will pass-by the Parliament of Singapore and continue towards the “Old Hill Street Police Station” – a historic 1934 neoclassical building, which is probably the most photographed building in Singapore thanks to its multi-colored tiles. Very instragrammable building! From there, we will go up to Fort Canning Park, which is one of the few hills in Singapore. It’s an iconic hilltop landmark which has witnessed many of Singapore’s historical milestones. During WW2, the surrender of Singapore to Japanese forces was made on that hill. We will stop at some of the historical landmarks.
After running through some history, we will go down the hill and go towards Chinatown, where we will pass by some of the temples. We will then continue southbound towards “Lau Pa Sat” (it means “old market” in the local dialect), a unique blend of history, striking architecture and scrumptious local food into one experience! A true Singapore landmark, Lau Pa Sat was gazetted as a national monument in 1973.
Lau Pa Sat is a mere 300 meters away from where our running adventure started earlier at the Marina Bay. We will go back to our start point, where it will be time to bid farewell after an amazing run across Singapore!
