Description
This running tour is perfect for a sub-90-minute introduction to Washington DC’s must-see sights along the National Mall, taking guests past the monuments that you read about in history books. The tour will provide a solid introduction to Washington, DC and the most famous monuments, views, and attractions that the capital city has to offer!
The route will take guests past the White House, Reflecting Pool, Lincoln Memorial, MLK Jr. Memorial, Tidal Basin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Capitol building, and back up through the city streets, covering just about every well-known corner of the city.
The tour will begin in the middle of downtown Washington, DC. We will head south towards the National Mall, with the first stop being at the front of the White House. From there we will continue down towards the mall, alongside the President’s Park, down to the ponds and willow trees in Constitution Gardens and alongside the reflecting pool. The Lincoln Memorial will be our first stop along the mall, where we can walk right up to the larger-than-life Abraham Lincoln statue. We will then make our way to the Tidal Basin, where we will pass one of the newest and most stunning additions to the DC monuments honoring the most prominent leader in the civil rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr.
Rounding the tidal basin will take us through the FDR Memorial and Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and then to the Washington Monument, where we will have a view of the Capitol building off in the distance directly east, the White House directly North, and the Lincoln Memorial directly West. We will next make our way to the United States Capitol Building, the headquarters of the United States Congress, where we will see the Senate wing to the north and the House of Representatives wing to the south. We will then make our way back down Capitol Hill and jog past the National Gallery of Art, Museum of Natural History, Air and Space Museum, and back up through the city, allowing for a stop at a coffee shop to end the tour!
