BERGEN ON THE RUN

Bergen on the run

Running Tours in Bergen offers a healthy and unique way to discover the winding alleyways and mountain panoramas of Bergen with an experienced jogging guide at your side. Let us share with you the hidden secrets and jaw dropping vistas that the locals have discovered for themselves.

BERGEN AND RUNNING

With the mountains only steps from downtown, runners of all abilities can combine a trip to the famous landmarks with a feeling of escaping it all on one of our exhilarating jogs.

We have daily trips 365 days a year both in the city and in the wonderful mountains surrounding Bergen. We have runs in the morning at 08.00 (the best way to start the day!-) and in the evening at 18.00, but the times and route are flexible with groups. It is a fun, sporty and unique way to discover our city with many historic sights and great running options for both easy runs and more challenging long ones. We not only show you our city and talk about the history but will also inform you about what goes on in the music and art scene, were to wine and dine or where to find the best shopping places.

BERGEN IN A NUTSHELL

Bergen in a nutshell” is a route where you will explore some of the best of what Bergen city centre can offer. You will see some of the best sights, get some of the stunning city views and explore some of the most picturesque parts of Bergen. We start at sea level, elevate quickly to a wonderful mountain road with beautiful views, through small alleys down to the city again along the small lake in the city centre, around the Nordnes peninsula and back to start. Duration of the route is approximately 1 hour.

OLD BERGEN

This route lets you discover the unique place called “Old Bergen”, which is a collection of old wooden houses in Sandviken as well as the main sights in the city. It is a relatively flat route in the beginning before the tour goes uphill to Fjellveien and then back to the city giving you fantastic view of the scenery in addition to the good exercise. This running tour is a great combination of city and nature and it takes approximately 1 ½ hours.

In addition to these 3 tours, we also offer shorter Mountain routes worth exploring!

FJELLVEIEN

Run along a beautiful route with a good overview of the city along the entire length of Fjellveien, which is a road running along the hillside of Mount Fløyen. The running tour starts and finishes in the city centre and takes approximately 1 ½ hours.

ISDALEN

Enjoy a run away from the city into the beautiful and majestic Isdalen, where we will run along a small lake surrounded by high, steep mountain sides.

The route starts and finishes in the city centre. The duration of the Isdalen running tour is approximately 1 ½ hours.

STOLTZEN

This very steep uphill route is for people that are in good shape, who do not have problems with their knees and who are ready for a challenge. After a warm- up, we walk/jog slowly up approximately 900 steps, mostly stone steps, to the top which is 313 metres above the start of the climb. This is a narrow route cut into the hillside. After a short break at the top to drink and get some energy back, where we also can enjoy a magnificent view of the city and its surroundings, we jog on firm gravel roads to Mount Fløyen and back down to the city again. This adventure takes about 2 hours.

Last but not least, read about our longest and most picturesque tour across Vidden, where you can experience true natural beauty!

VIDDEN

Vidden as mentioned above is a hiking route that starts in the city centre with bus to Mount Ulriken cable car station, up with the cable car before walking/jogging/trekking back to Mount Fløyen over what is termed “ Vidden” in Bergen, which is the mountain plateau to the east of the city between the two most known mountains in Bergen. This is a hike to remember and only conducted when the weather allows it. It is approximately 6 hours long and exhausting in its way that it never let you rest. It is mountaineering terrain with a spectacular view of the city and its surrounding fjord and mountains. It is recommended to do the hike in the afternoon/early evening during May – September. We bring along refreshments and pick you up in the city centre and guide you all the way to Mount Ulriken and back to the city via Mount Fløyen. Here is what one of our hikers/joggers wrote on Tripadvisor after joining us on a Vidden tour last summer.

“An Extrordinary Hike” I happen to visit Bergen on one of the most beautiful days of the year this past summer. The highlight of my two weeks in Scandinavia was without question my extraordinary hike with Joggetur’s Erik Eidsheim. Erik was an incredibly thoughtful, energetic and enthusiastic guide during our trek from Ulriken to Floyen. Since coming home to New York, I have told friends to prioritize a trip to Bergen to have a Joggetur experience.

Hope to see you in and around Bergen!
