RIO DE JANEIRO'S COPACABANA BEACH SUNRISE TOUR - 10K

Runner on the ground - SIDHARTA
Come and be enchanted by the landscapes of Copacabana just as many Cariocas do every day! Immortalized in the voice of Tom Jobim, the song “Copacabana” serves as inspiration for our tour. Right from the first verses, the author sings: “Copacabana little princess of the sea/ In the mornings you are life singing/ And in the evening the setting sun/ Always leaves a longing in us”.
According to a popular legend, a mermaid who inhabits the waters of Copacabana is responsible for the fascination that the beach exerts on its visitors. The main destination for those who visit Rio, the beach is where most of Rio’s runners gather, especially at sunrise!
Our tour will start at one of the neighborhood’s historic landmarks, the Copacabana Fortress, from where we’ll see the first rays of sunlight tinting the Atlantic waters. From the fortress, built in 1914 to protect Guanabara Bay, we’ll continue to the other end of the beach, until we reach the Duque de Caxias Fort (also known as the Leme Fort). Here you can choose which way to do this first part of the route: along the famous Copacabana promenade, with its waves designed by Burle Marx; or along the golden sands, on the shore of the Atlantic (a more challenging and demanding way to get to Forte do Leme).
Once you reach the Leme Fort, built in the 18th century, you’ll learn a little about the history of this Brazilian cultural heritage site. Located in an environmentally protected area and surrounded by vegetation, from the top there is a privileged view of Copacabana beach, The Christ Redeemer statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain.
From here we will head to a place that is part of the history of brazilian music: Beco das Garrafas. Bossa Nova, a Brazilian rhythm that has become known worldwide, was born in this small alleyway hidden away in Copacabana.
Lulled by the mixture of samba and jazz, we’ll continue on to one of the symbols of Rio de Janeiro: the Copacabana Palace. With its peculiar architecture, Brazil’s most famous hotel is home to curiosities ranging from royalty to rock stars!
Finally, we’ll get to know some of the neighborhood’s gastronomic corners, where during the day you can sample the variety of brazilian cuisine and, at dusk, the awakening of the neighborhood’s nightlife.
Join me on this journey that unites natural beauty, history and culture, surrendering to the siren song that echoes in Copacabana.
Bonus info:
Although entry to the Copacabana Fort is not included in our tour, a visit to the top of the Leme Fort is possible if it is open at the time of our tour. It’s a climb of 900 meters to go and 900 meters to come back!
