Guatemala City has a temperate-warm climate almost all year round. The Guatemala City Downtown tour runs on a reasonably flat stretch, so its only difficulty may be the distance. However, we can do it at your speed to enjoy both ancient and modern architecture and beautiful gardens along the way.

The Guatemala City Downtown tour is a circular route – so we can start at any point. Usually, it starts at the Plaza Obelisco or Obelisk Square, which marks the division between zones 10, 14, 13 and 9. Also, it sits at the intersection of Avenida de las Américas, Avenida La Reforma, Liberación Boulevard and Boulevard Los Próceres. This area of the city houses many central offices of banks, insurance companies, farms, medical offices, shopping malls, international hotels, state offices, the airport, the zoo, a botanical garden, restaurants and galleries.

Next, we will pass through the Cuatro Grados Norte district. Besides being picturesque, it also has many eating, drinking or shopping options. The Olympic road and the Civic Center lie next to Cuatro Grados Norte. Here you’ll find major attractions like the Municipal Palace, the Central Bank, the Palace of Justice, the Finance Building, the Courts Tower, and Social Security’s headquarters.

To the Historic Centre

At this point of the tour, we will enter the streets of the historical centre. Here, we can appreciate a different facet of the city to the one we had been observing. We will walk through the sixth avenue, which is a pedestrian way. However, we must be careful to stop at every corner to wait for the green traffic light. This road will take us to the Central Plaza with the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Portal of Commerce. We will continue our journey to the Relief Map and the Baseball Diamond.

All of this route is on asphalt, so be sure to bring your usual running shoes. Remember to apply sunscreen and bring a visor or cap. There are many points where you can drink bottled water, and we will take care of that.
