Runner on the ground - EDINBURGH RUNNING GUIDE

This is a 6km / 3.7m route that takes in all the major sights of Edinburgh city centre and some of its best scenery!
If you enjoy running or jogging and you want to see everything that the city has to offer at the same time then this is the tour for you. We go at a leisurely pace so you can appreciate your surroundings, ask me any questions and of course there are plenty of stops along the way for photos!

I will take you to visit the city’s most historic monuments on Calton Hill, an official UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you can gaze over the city and nearby hills, while taking in the unique design of the Scottish National Monument, the historic Nelson’s Monument and the Observatory.

We then head down to Holyrood, where you admire the Queen’s official Scottish residence through the Palace gates and look across at the very unique and controversial design of our Scottish parliament building. From here it is a run up the cobbled streets of the beautiful and historic Royal Mile, which although is a slight incline all the way, has plenty of stops to catch your breath. At the top, we reach Edinburgh Castle, the most fought over castle in the United Kingdom!

From here, it is downhill all the way into Princes Street Gardens, the now beautiful park area that in the 16th century was a poisonous loch at the foot of the castle! On the final stretch of our run, I take you down the impressive George Street, lined with statues of kings and noblemen, that used to be the banking capital of Scotland, but is now our luxury shopping street. We finish the tour passing through St Andrew’s Square and gazing up at the imposing Melville Monument and we end up finishing where we started.
Please note: The meeting point will be outside your accommodation if it is a central location; otherwise an appropriate city centre location will be agreed in advance.
