KUALA LUMPUR HERITAGE FUN RUN - 10K
Runner on the ground - PATRICK
The tour starts at Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) in KL, specifically at the KL Zero Milestone and the surrounding historical buildings. From there, we’ll head towards the River of Life, where the two most important rivers in Malaysia meet. We’ll pass by Masjid Jamek, the oldest Mosque in KL, known for its beautiful Moorish architecture.
Next, we’ll continue on the heritage trail, which will take us to the Cathedral of St. John and St. John’s Missionary School, representing the British colonial era. After that, we’ll make our way around Bukit Nanas Eco-Forest, with the KL Tower sitting atop the hill. It’s a natural forest right in the heart of downtown KL.
From the heritage sites and forest, we’ll move on to the modern part of KL, highlighted by the iconic KL Twin Towers and its park. We’ll then explore Little India and Chinatown, and if we have time, we can take a break to enjoy some local delicacies and desserts. As we continue, we’ll pass by a street where a Hindu temple and Chinese temple are located side by side, showcasing the peaceful coexistence of different religions and cultures in Malaysia.
We might make a stop at the Central Market to see authentic artifacts and cultural products before ending our run back where we started. By the end of the run, you’ll be amazed by the diversity KL has to offer, from its vibrant cultural heritage and delicious food to its unique architectural buildings. It’s a place where people of different faiths and religions learn to accept and appreciate each other, evident in the close proximity of temples, mosques, churches, and Sikh temples. It’s a powerful reminder that despite our differences, we can live harmoniously and joyfully together!
Lina Arslanian –
The morning of Christmas Eve, we were met at our hotel by Teik Yen Ko and his running group promptly at 6:30 am
We started before sunrise with safety lights and intro to the city’s history. The first half of run had many stops at historical buildings and points of interest related to the diversity of Malaysian culture.
Halfway through the run, we stopped for coffee and a light snack at a cafe converted from a historic post office. It was nice to learn about Cham, kopi, kaya, steamed white bread and steamed bun topped with pumpkin seeds.
After the snack, we proceeded with a solid miles with couple of stops at KLCC park and a traditional Malay house.
TYK’s running group was friendly and conversational which made the run more enjoyable.
This is not our first Go Running tour. The uniqueness of this run was that we saw and learned more than anticipated.
Furthermore, having a group made it so much fun! It was as the most enjoyable run in 2023.
We are looking forward to our next running tour in 2024.
