OAXACA CITY STREETS AND THE HILL – 18K

Runner on the ground - MANUEL
The tour starts at the city of Las Canteras where the General State Archive is located. We will continue towards the center of Santa Maria Ixcotel, a small picturesque town next to the City of Oaxaca, to return on a walker that will take us to the Baseball Stadium “Eduardo Vasconcelos”, where the “Guerreros de Oaxaca” play.
We will begin the ascent from the streets of the Historic Center of Oaxaca City, passing through the Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the Cruz de Piedra, the Xochimilco neighborhood, going up the Fortín Stairs (a little more than one hundred steps), arriving at the Guelaguetza Auditorium, continuing a climb up to the Municipal Observatory to reach the highest point of the route, with a bit of hiking to the place “La Escarpada”.
The run continues by visiting the Cathedral of the City and the Alameda, reaching the Macedonio Alcalá Theater and its beautiful front. We will run along Calle 5 de Mayo, reaching El Pañuelito, a place where you can enjoy a good coffee.
This route is challenging, but by the time the tour wraps up, it’ll totally be worth it for you’ll get to capture some incredible snapshots of the beautiful city of Oaxaca. We are sure that you’ll have a blast and go home with a truly delightful experience.

Manuel and I left the Centro Historico for our run at 6am. It was the perfect time to run and get to know Oaxaca when people were waking up. Manuel is a local and super knowledgeable. I learned so much about the history, culture and peoples of Oaxaca and all while getting in a nearly 10 mile walk/run. I felt completely safe and did not have to worry about getting lost 🙂 I did this on our first day in Oaxaca and it was a excellent way to get a lay of the land to plan the rest of our trip. Highly recommend!

Manuel planned a great route through Oaxaca. It’s always great to get the perspective of a local! He spoke great English and was very patient with my messy Spanish.
