PARIS ROYAL GARDENS TOUR – 8K

Runner on the ground - SHELLY

On this running tour, runners will venture through the impressive Jardin des Tuileries and past the world famous Musée du Louvre. The elegant and formal Jardin des Tuileries with ornamental ponds, dozens of statues, and chestnut trees, was laid out by André Le Nôtre, Louis XIV’s garden architect. The Louvre Museum is mostly known for housing the Mona Lisa but long before it was a museum of art, the spectacular Louvre was a Royal Palace, constantly growing in size under a succession of French Kings.

Crossing the two banks on the Île de la Cité runners are greeted by the breathtaking view of Notre-Dame Cathedral. This Gothic marvel is one of the enduring symbols of Paris and runners will have the chance to hear all about the cathedral and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Next up as we enter the Latin Quarter, are the Panthéon, the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Palais du Luxembourg. The impressive ghostly Panthéon is a neo-classical church built by Louis XV as a shrine to Ste Geneviève, but soon changed to a mausoleum housing the remains of some of the most notable French citizens. Inside the Panthéon are the remains of Voltaire, Rousseau, Resistance leader Jean Moulin, Marie and Pierre Curie, Victor Hugo and Emile Zola. The sophisticated Jardin du Luxembourg, with its flowers and the deep shade of the romantic Fontaine de Médicis, is sheltered by the wonderful Palais du Luxembourg, now the seat of the French Senate, built by Marie de Médicis (widow of Henry IV) to remind her of her native Florence.

This 8 km tour is also the amazing opportunity to experience main Parisian sights such as the Obélisque, the Pont Neuf, the Hôtel de Ville, the Odéon Theatre, the musée d’Orsay and the Palais Bourbon.

As another runner has said, this was the highlight of my trip to Paris. As a runner, there is no better way to explore a city. Wake up early and get your run in, while also seeing some beautiful gardens and buildings. You’ll hear all about the history of each place, and you can stop along the way for a photo. Aurélien even had me going for a fast final kick at the end! It was great!

We did the Paris Royal gardens Tour with Shelly at 7am. She was polite, friendly and very personable. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Paris, (what she didn’t know, she found out later and emailed us!). We asked lots of questions, not only about the history of Paris, but also everyday life, and etiquette questions. She was happy to answer them all, and happy to take all the pictures we wanted! The pictures were amazing since there we no people out and about because of the early hour. Shelly even took the time to email us directly after our run with our pictures, answers to questions, and all the recommendations she gave us throughout the run. Shelly made this run a fantastic experience!

My husband and I had a really great time on the royal gardens tour. Yohann arrived promptly 7:30 am bearing a bag of warm croissants to eat before our run. We ended up running over 6 miles (10k) and enjoyed it thoroughly. We started early in the morning and it was so beautiful to jog through the streets of Paris while watching the sun rise. Yohann was very knowledgeable and had a welcoming and friendly candor and personality. The gardens were particularly gorgeous to see and we saw several areas of the city we would have never seen on our own. This run was one of our favorite activities we did while in Paris.

    Running with Yohann

We did the beautiful gardens tour with Yohann who was very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. We chose the “slow and graceful” speed which was perfect as Yohann took loads of photos of us which saved us a job and also gave us plenty of time to admire the sights. Would definitely book him again!
