Description
The Essential London Tour is a great introduction for any runner new to the city. London one of the most diverse cities in the world and you’ll certainly see it all on this run.
Beginning the run by Tower Bridge you will cross over the only bascule bridge in London. This was the entry point to central London when trade came in by ship. Southwark in the south is known for its docks, goods yards and artisan traders and still retains a buzz. Its now home to trade an entertainment with Borough market and Shakespeare’s Globe theatre. There is a real sense of history retained with the Clink Prison, Winchester Palace and the Golden Hind. You will be transported in time as you start to look up. You’ll see towering skyscrapers with the tallest being The Shard. Its glass façade is unmissable and divisive among the community. They are quickly bought back together in one of the many outdoor covered markets, Borough market being the largest and arguably the best. Moving more centrally you’ll soon be outside having open air and views in front and behind you.
South Bank is the art hub of London. With the Tate Gallery, National Gallery and National Theatre your running tour will help you plan the rest of your trip. Pulling you across the Thames is the St Paul’s Cathedral, the beautiful dome designed by Sir Christopher Wren is a protected view in London. Back across the Millennium Bridge the river will take you to the London Eye. The sight of Big Ben, probably the most iconic building in London will greet us as we enter the centre of politics. You may have heard of Brexit? See where its all unfolding in Westminster, the Houses of Parliment and Downing Street. The run will end on the north embankment famous for being some of the hardest miles in the London Marathon.
