Porto is a city with many faces! The running tour starts at Porto City Hall and now it is time to get ready for Old Town beauties, incredible views, historical monuments and modern day Porto.
Running through downtown we reach Torre dos Clerigos a church in the center of the city, recently restored (2014), and its tower with more than 200 steps, where Nicholas Nasoni, its builder, is buried.
Thereafter, head to Palacio de Cristal, known for its gardens, where we meet peacocks and have a stunning view of the river Douro, followed by a run downhill to the river Ribeira. Ribeira is the oldest place in Porto, where the city was born, side by side the Douro river used in the past to transport our famous wine from the vineyards to the cellars. At Ribeira we can admire the old bridge built in 1888 by Gustave Eiffel (yep – the guy with the tower in Paris), which is still in use today.
Going up we admire Sé, the cathedral, with a must see view over Porto and Gaia. After seeing the Old Town, we will dive into the downtown shopping area, passing the iconic Mercado do Bolhão, a building with four entrances, the oldest market in the city, focused on fresh produce, especially food. The sellers are divided into different specialized sections, namely: fishmonger, butchers, horticultural and floral areas, finishing where we began, at the City Hall.
This running tour is bound to make you will fall in love with this very friendly and beautiful city. Also, the tour gives a great overview of the city and will inspire you to discover much more on your own.
