Spring in Copenhagen is beautiful and magical. We hear this statemant surprisingly often from our running tour guests. While the city may seem somewhat deserted during the cold winter months, then as soon as the sun starts shining us Danes come crawling out of hibernation, and you will raise your eyebrows and think “where are all these people coming from?”
I am not kidding – you will be surprised by the amount of Copenhageners that are suddenly out in the streets. Even if the temperature is still 8-12 degrees, then we come and sit and sip our coffees at the local café wrapped in warm blankets. All cafes have blankets and there is nothing wussy about sitting with a blanket, so even if you are a big tough guy, then your street cred will remain intact after wrapping up warm.
Things to do during spring in Copenhagen
The park “Kongens Have” that surrounds the Rosenborg Castle is a gem during spring as there is a vast display of Crocuses. If you arrive at the garden at around 10.30 on a Saturday you are bound to see the group of people practicing Thai Chi and combine this with the Crocuses and its pretty idyllic.
Especially the month of May is fantastic in Copenhagen with a lot of exciting things to do. We have the carnival, where in best Brazilian style the samba groups are walking through the city. We also have Distortion, which is a huge streetparty in Copenhagen and where around 100.000 people are in the streets. Distortion is an amazing music event and its so down to earth and somewhat disorganized, that it is always are great time. Even if you are not 18 and know the latest tunes on the Danish music scene, then this is a great event to experience. Distortion will be held 31st of May to 4th of June.
From a running perspective springtime is fantastic. Check out the many running event in our guide to running races in Copenhagen. If you want get off land and into the water you can either get a very fresh dip at the Harbour Bath at Islands Brygge or you can discover the city from the waterside in a kayak. The company Kayak Republic offers daily tours where you can together with one of their cool guides venture into the harbor. It’s a great experience and a great workout.
