PAULISTA AVENUE - THE HEART OF SAO PAULO - 7K
Runner on the ground - NICHOLAS
Welcome to Avenida Paulista—the avenue that never decided what it wanted to be, so it became everything. As the highest ridge in the central city, the “Espigão da Paulista” reflects the very soul of São Paulo’s growth. This easy 7 km linear tour takes you through an architectural museum where 19th-century coffee baron mansions sit alongside cyberpunk LED towers and modernist masterpieces.
We begin at MASP, a brutalist manifesto suspended on four red pillars, creating the largest free span in Latin America at the time of its construction. From there, we transition into the minimalist precision of Japan House, celebrating the largest Japanese community outside of Japan. We’ll pay our respects to the “mansion that refused to die,” Casa das Rosas, one of the final survivors of the avenue’s aristocratic era, before reaching the sacred ground of the São Silvestre finish line—the heart of Brazilian running history since 1925.
The route offers a unique geographic perspective: you are running on a literal watershed. Rain falling on one side of the street flows toward the Tietê River, while the other flows toward the Pinheiros. We’ll cool off in the shade of Parque Trianon, a prehistoric remnant
of the original Atlantic Forest, before finishing back at the “vão livre” of MASP. Whether it’s the dystopian glow of the FIESP building or the hidden 18th-century chapels swallowed by glass skyscrapers, this run proves that Paulista isn’t just a street—it’s a pulse.
