If you like nature, if you like stunning views, and if you enjoy running trails then you are in for a treat. This running tour begins at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The center is home to an abundance of local Appalachian crafts and provides a wonderful history of the area.
Quickly we hit the trail which is single track and climbs, and climbs, and climbs some more. This may sound daunting, but along the way we will stop to see some of the useful plants growing in the area, the diversity of hardwoods along the trail, and learn about the folklore behind some of these native plants. We take our time going up and adjust the pace to yours, so even if you are not used to running in mountains, this tour is still for you.
No matter how much of a sweat you break going up, it is worth it just for the stunning views. There is a wonderful opportunity for a photograph at lunch rock, which is about 2.5 miles into the run, and no matter the season the landscape is magnificent.
Remember the climbing? Now it’s time to descend and let go! The return to the Folk Art Center is one of my favorite downhill runs in the entire area.
These are just some examples of the wonderful places you will see on this incredible running tour through the best places to visit in the U.S.A. In 2017 according to Lonely Planet!
Come on out and discover the beauty and diversity of the Appalachian Mountains.
